Luka Wines

Luka Wine Farm is just a few hours’ drive from Cape Town and lies in South Africa’s world-famous Garden Route, a sunny stretch of southern Cape coastline featuring a wonderful mix of wide, pristine beaches, dappled forests, picturesque lagoons and vibrant seaside towns. It has an oceanic climate, with mild to warm summers, and mild to cool winters. It has the mildest climate in South Africa and the second mildest climate in the world. Wedged between the warm Indian Ocean & dramatic mountain ranges, you will find Luka Wine Farm, a 7 hectare boutique wine farm of which 1.5 hectares is under Sauvignon Blanc grape. Luka forms part of the Plettenberg Bay wine route. The Plettenberg Bay District falls within the Cape South Coast Region of the Western Cape Goegraphical Unit. It was given Wine of Origin Status in March 2006 and has already been scouted as the future "Champagne District" of South Africa. Luka was born in 2008 following the retirement of ex-Zambians, Hennie & Anita Kritzinger. The name "Luka" was derived from their two grandchildren Luke & Kate. 3000 Sauvignon Blanc vines were planted in September 2008. For Hennie & Anita, the winemaking process, from the nurturing of the vines to the hand picking of the grapes and the vinification of the vines, was a true labour of love. IN October 2014 we, The Barnard Family, purchased Luka from Hennie and Anita after we instantly fell in love with the farm. We strive to continue the legacy of passion, love & commitment to excellence they have left behind. Luka’s Vinification and bottling is done at Bramon Wine Estate under the supervision of wine maker Anton Smal from Villiera acclaim. Anton is very excited by the diversity of flavours attributed to terroir, climate and good old fashioned care. At this present time, our wine tasting venue will be available by appointment only.
